Preface by Lino Alviani —Museum Curator
Every year I am faced with the challenge of transforming myself from a scrupulous observer into an enthusiastic and self-satisfied curator. It’s like trying to savour the sensation of "deja-vu" as it passes in a fleeting moment, which cannot fail to lead to an emotional impasse. By seeking to unite artists from all over the world under one roof, I strive to make Rose's Choice comprised of female works that continuously provoke sensations, rationality and emotions. Their subject matter gives balance to the body and mind, leading to harmony with itself, with others and the community.
Rose’s Choice asks the audience to form a personal vision of the world of art, in which the works are seen simply as an elementary synthesis of living in an estranged universe. By having the artists coming from multi-ethnic environments multiplicity and semantics mix to form the foundation of daily life and confrontation.
The job of the curator is to abstain from facile historical-political reflection and to concentrate on the theoretical and artistic outcome. The result is a complex experience, composed of works of the utmost variety, suggestive that the creative process is not forced or directed, but rather aims at the fusion of pictorial and abstract Art. From the apparently informal and even geometric portrayal of a landscape to complex installations, the works create the poetic image or that to which is socially provocative. All of them are highly focused in their rendering of a worldwide multicultural offering, far removed from a vague, generic globalization.
The selection we present in this fourth edition of Rose’s Choice demonstrates how these female artists are extraordinarily contemporary, untiring experimenters of forms and materials. They unite the discipline of research while allowing themselves to be guided towards unknown paths. The artists strive to conquest new languages and new forms of expression, blurring the lines between art and reality. This process of artistic materialization can but only reveal the indefinable sense of unfamiliarity inherent in the reality of one’s own self.
This is an exhibition to be therefore understood as a meandering, which chooses the experiments from different artists as they explore the interaction between the artist’s practice and social relations, thus resulting in a form of collective education.

Letter from Patrizia Melone —Mayor
of Scontrone
We're at the fourth edition of Rose's Choice
and thanks to the recognition of the Regional government,
MIDA is officially recognized as a 3rd category museum. This
signifies two very important things for the museum: 1) It
is a symbol of appreciation for all the work we've done over
the past 3 years. 2) Limited not only to MIDA, this honor
encompasses Scontrone's Paleontological Center, its respective
archeological sites, and the town's progressive Mural Exhibition,
thus creating "Il Sistema Museale Creato a Scontrone"
or The Museum Circuit of Scontrone.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our local
municipality and the regional governmental offices of Abruzzo
who have graciously rewarded the labors and efforts of a small
village. This is a symbol of how goals my be obtained through
perseverance and passion even with only the limited resources
of a small provincial town.
It was a moving experience to meet these very
special artists. One can't help but notice their vitality,
desire to participate in the exhibition and leave a stamp
of their passage through our young museum. I am grateful for
their enthusiasm to travel from afar and share with us their
experiences. This act of Rose's Choice which is becoming almost
a ritual of the museum, will continue to retain its newness
because with each new year brings new artists and new diversity.
Year after year we are dedicated to finding
representatives of different countries and we intend to show
art as a medium of expressing one's culture. As a result each
annual exhibition encompasses many different tones, shapes,
sounds and tastes which the artists use to express their uniqueness
while touching on the universality of human emotion.
I sincerely thank the artists for venturing
from their distant homes in all parts of the world to share
with us these special moments. We greatly appreciate their
decision to reach out to our humble village tucked away within
the mountains of Abruzzo and hope that we can repay them with
our love, warmth and Scontronese traditions of hospitality.
Our current international situation continues
to grow more and more intense with each new day. At times
hope may be difficult to find, but in our own little way,
here at MIDA, we are making efforts to move us all forward
with our contributions to art culture and diversity. The works
that MIDA exhibits are not only art but rather vehicles of
artists' messages that speak to all of humanity.
Again, I thank these courageous and thoughtful
women for their commitment to MIDA, the donation of their
artwork and most of all, for their steadfast efforts to the
elevate the human spirit.
